Almost all individuals can be safely vaccinated with all vaccines. In very few individuals, vaccination is contraindicated or should be deferred. Where there is doubt, rather than withholding vaccine, advice should be sought from an appropriate consultant paediatrician or physician, the immunisation co-ordinator or consultant in health protection.

Immunisation of individuals with underlying medical conditions: the Green Book, chapter 7.

Some medical conditions increase the risk of complications from infectious diseases. Children and adults with such conditions should be immunised as a matter of priority. These groups may also require additional vaccinations or additional doses of vaccines to provide adequate protection. Refer to the Green Book for specific information regarding individual vaccinations for travel.
